This is the first model of the New Testament church. Those who believe by the outreach efforts of those commissioned by God to be the trailblazers of movement we call the Church. They were led by the 11 apostles and many other followers, filled with the holy spirit, all of the teachings of Christ, and a simple mandate – Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit and teaching to obey everything I have commanded you. God chose these to transform the world.

Their lives were radically transformed. One day they were going about our daily lives, as all of us were at some point, and next the message of salvation entered their hearts. It says they received it gladly and they devoted themselves. The word for devoted in the Greek here is “proskartero” and it means to adhere, to be constant, to be steadfastly attentive to, to persevere and not faint, be courageous towards. This is concerning the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship, to sharing of meals (including the Lord’s supper) and to prayer.

It must be pointed out that there was no church building and not everyone had a personal bible, no cell phone, no internet, no livestream. What they had going for them was their fervor, their commitment to the message and staying connected to the leaders and the rest of the body. Valuing every person. They had everything in common. They shared with those in need with great generosity. They worshipped together and met in homes.
